I agree with you, Ed - the Governor is spending so much time working to get Mitt Romney nominated he's forgetting to represent the people who have given him the opportunity to be on the national stage seems to enjoy so much - let's see whether or not he's got the courage to let the legislature do what we the people want, or if he turns NJ into a three-ring-circus of anti-equality invaders with deep pockets and hate-filled messages - and if that's what he does, I say he'll pay with his job come 2013!!!

Is this Governor for real?

His commment “The fact of the matter is, I think people would have been happy to have a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting and dying in the streets in the South.”

Christie On Gay Marriage: Southern Blacks Would Have Been Psyched To Have Vote On Their Rights

Shows all of us in NJ that this Governor is out of touch with the people of the Garden State.

The overwhelming majority of New Jerseyans believe that Marriage Equality is fair and that members of the LGBT community should have the same equal rights as everyone else.

The legislature in NJ has seen the error of its ways from 2009, includinge Senator Jennifer Beck who voted no on equality twice before and Steve Sweeney who chickened out, and will send the bill to Governor Christ to sign into law.

I agree with Speaker Sheila Oliver: “People were fighting and dying in the streets of the South for a reason,” Oliver said. “They were fighting and dying in the streets of the South because the majority refused to grant minorities equal rights by any method. It look legislative action to bring justice to all Americans, just as legislative action is the right way to bring marriage equality to all New Jerseyans.”

Let's see how tough Christie can be, my guess is it will be politics as usual.

If there is one thing that drives me crazy it's walking along the beach after 5pm and seeing mounds of garbage left behind by bathers too lazy to clean up after themselves when they leave. Plastic bottles, zip lock bags, crumpled up candy wrappers, baby food containers, Pringle canisters --- how can people be so rude and contemptuous of beach-goers and the beach itself?

Would they leave a mess like that in their own living rooms, or let garbage litter their front lawns? It's not likely -- but even if they are personal slobs, the garbage they leave is in public space, space all of us want to enjoy. Who wants to set up their chair near a dirty diaper or have to step their way through the remains of someone's discarded lunch?

I have seen people pack up their coolers and blankets, shake out the sand and not give a single thought to cleaning up the leftovers of their afternoon picnic. Off they march to the parking lot leaving their paper and plastic squished in the sand or floating on the waves.

I know I should get up and protest. I should speak up and insist that they pick up their garbage. But in this world, where clueless people are the most likely to get all loud and righteous when called out on their bad behavior, I fear they'll freak out on me. So instead of standing up to them, I watch them leave, stew in indignation, and then when it's time to go pick up some of their bottles and cans and march them to the recycle can myself.

Sloppy people, the rest of us are not your maids. The beach isn't populated by unseen fairies who will whisk away your refuse. Get a clue. Clean up after yourselves. Or stay home.
